Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) involves getting a patient to and from the source of medical care when the medical condition is not life threatening. This includes ground vehicles, helicopters, wheelchairs, and stretchers. The goal of the transport is to get the patient from one location to another while offering medical support, rather than to offer field treatment and rapid transport to an emergency facility. Georgia Department of Community Health, Division of Public Health (DPH) regards NEMT as a crucial factor to improve public health in State of Georgia.
